Calthorpe Living Lab

A Living Lab_Marina Chang smaller.jpg

The Calthorpe Living Lab is based at the Calthorpe Community Garden, a 1.2 acre eco oasis in the heart of London. Visited by over 30,000 people each year, it provides a green haven for wildlife as well as the local community and general public. The digester adds an innovative, experimental dimension to the garden and manages much of the organic waste produced on-site alongside several compost units. It was also instrumental in securing a 2019 London Food Link Urban Food Award (supported by the Mayor of London).

The Calthorpe has hosted several UCL-LEAP collaborations including the most recent addition - a tower hydroponics system - which we are testing with lettuce and digestate to see how it compares with artificial hydroponic nutrient solution.

Get in touch if you'd like a guided tour. The Calthorpe has affordable meeting/workshop space for hire and catering on-site using some of the garden produce. And of course, you'll be supporting a valuable community asset...
